Jüdischer Wohnbezirk in Warschau - Jewish residential district in Warsaw or Dzielnica Zydowska

This is the first time since October 15th, 1940, the entire page from the Polish newspaper Nowy Kurier Warszawski with the map of future ghetto borders in Warszawa is published. It was called by the Germans „Jüdischer Wohnbezirk in Warschau“ - Jewish residential district in Warsaw or in Polish Dzielnica Zydowska. However, the construction of the ghetto wall started on April 1, 1940.
The ghetto was divided by Chłodna Street, which due to its importance (as one of Warsaw's major east-west arteries) was excluded from it. The area south of Chłodna was known as the “Small Ghetto”, while the area north of this street was the “Large Ghetto”.

When the Germans created the Warsaw Ghetto in 1940, Janusz Korczaks orphanage "Dom Sierot" was forced to move from 92 Krochmalana (street). The last location of the "Dom Sierot" was at 16 Sienna (street) in Small Ghetto. Ghetto borders were changed several times.

The last location of the "Dom Sierot"  (marked with *was at 16 Sienna (street) in the Small Ghetto. Ghetto borders were changed several times.

On 5th of October 1941 the ghetto border was moved to the middle of Sienna Street. Therefore it was not a wall just the barbed fence.
